Restore the City of San Diego Sustainable Energy Advisory Board (SEAB)

Published on 4/29/2022
Honorable Mayor Gloria,

The City of San Diego has before it many issues regarding energy. The backbone of the Climate Action Plan is the reduction of greenhouse gasses which can only be done by replacing gas with clean and sustainable sources of energy. An implementation plan for the Energy Cooperation Agreement (ECA) covering clean energy, safe energy, reliable energy, equitable energy, and ensuring transparency was passed by the Council in June 2021 and is being jointly developed by the City and SDG&E.

To provide for crucial community input to the ECA and to the City’s Climate Action Plan goals, the LWV San Diego urges the Mayor to restore the Sustainable Energy Advisory Board (SEAB). The City Council established the Sustainable Energy Advisory Board to serve as an advisory body to the mayor and City Council on energy policy and future energy needs for the metropolitan San Diego area and to assist the City’s attainment of its energy independence and renewable energy goals.

For the past two years the SEAB has not had sufficient members to allow for a quorum. This Advisory Committee is crucial to have public input into some of the most important issues before our community. The LWV of San Diego therefore implores the Mayor to ensure that a full complement of members be seated so as to allow the important work of the SEAB to proceed.

To address our climate crisis, every option must be explored and community engagement is critical to conducting the business of the people.

Sincerely,

Kim Knox
