The proliferation of ghost guns is a major health and safety threat to our residents. The League of Women Voters supports measures to limit the accessibility and regulate the ownership of these weapons by private citizens, including a waiting period for background checks, personal identity verification, gun safety education, and annual license renewal. LWV San Diego urges the supervisors to pass an ordinance to help decrease the proliferation of these non-serialized firearms in San Diego County.
Outcome: The first reading of the ordinance received a 3-2 vote. A second reading will occur on January 25, 2022.
