Program on Childcare Access, Quality and Affordability: Current Challenges

Last week the Education Committee presented an in person program discussing childcare access, quality and affordability.

There were six very knowledgeable speakers who covered the current challenges, progress made and what is being done in San Diego to deal with the challenges.   In the last two years the City of San Diego has established an Office of Child and Youth Success and is working hard to open new sites approved through Measure H at recreation facilities, the County of San Diego has established a Health and Human Services Agency to deal with the challenges of childcare access and all of these agencies are following the San Diego County Child Care Blueprint . It has three goals in mind:
1: The child care workforce is well trained and paid competitive wages.
2: Safe and quality facilities are developed and renovated to expand child care programs
3: All families have access to childcare that meets their needs.

Our last presenter was Blake Hofstad, Director of California Parent Voices who discussed the legislative progress made this year, what needs to be done over the next year, and ways League members can support these changes.

The program was recorded and I encourage everyone to watch it on our Youtube Channel.
