Scisters Salon is San Diego’s first Zero Waste Salon. They provide professional hair care as well as offering toxin free beauty products in bulk and other products conducive to living a zero waste, intentional life style.

The salon was founded by Melissa Parker and Easton Bajsec in 2010. They had the shared vision of making a difference in the beauty industry towards conscience consumption. A lot of thought goes into how the salon is operated, the services offered, and the types of products that are used and retailed. The team takes pride in customizing products with easily recognizable ingredients, eliminating toxins and adding wellness to each customers beauty routine. Realistically, the salon strives for low waste. They try to create as close to zero waste going to landfills as possible. All of their shampoos and styling aids are purchased in bulk. This allows for refilling guest’s bottles as well as use in the salon. The challenge was to find a zero waste toxin free product company that would also curate professional beauty results. They eventually decided to launch Element, their in house brand. The beauty in bulk line is created for them in a lab in California and shipped in 5 gallon buckets. Once the buckets have been scraped clean, they are donated to I Love A Clean San Diego. They use the buckets to facilitate community clean-ups in San Diego. As a salon they are overseen by a governing body that requires them to purchase certain single use items. For that type of waste, they partner with Green Circle, a service which is designed to keep waste out of landfills. Green Circle collects their aluminum color tubes, color waste, gloves, foil, even hair clippings and finds new uses for them. Your hair clippings can help clean up oil spills, foil and color tubes re melted down to make new products and left over color is converted to clean energy.

Scisters salon offers a wide range of service and products. They are located at 7959 University Ave. La Mesa, Ca. 91942. They invite you to come be part of the vision.
