The Children's Craft Party at Don Bosco Shelter in Tijuana

Nine volunteers from the Immigration & Deportation Committee crossed the border with suitcases loaded with craft supplies for a fun day with the children housed in a shelter whose parents are awaiting an appointment through the app, CBP One, to come to America.
Patrick Sullivan, Chair of REFORMA's Children in Crisis Project, sent 50 Spanish books down which were very popular among the children and adults. We took 70 polaroid photos which the children pasted into popsicle stick frames and then decorated, pasted cotton balls onto a bunny picture, painted cars made out of toilet paper rolls & wooden wheels, sewed foam purses together and decorated them with foam stickers, put together a foam airplane and decorated it, got our faces painted, and blew bubbles all over the place.
After a pizza lunch provided by the LWVSD, the children had a piñata to climax the day.
This experience is definitely two ways. Volunteers and children both enjoyed each other and felt very special.
