POLICY

The Advocacy and Public Policy Committee studies local and regional government policy matters.

At monthly meetings, there are
- speakers who discuss current topics
- observer reports on the activity of  legislative and quasi-legislative bodies
- discussion about potential advocacy and local ballot propositions

This is a great committee to visit or join to learn more about a wide range of local issues.

Observer Corps

An observer is an individual who attends a governmental meeting, notes what happens at the meeting, and reports back to the League and the community.  Leagues across the country have observers.

The LWV of San Diego has observers at the following meetings:
County Board of Supervisors: Ann Link & Mary Thompson
SANDAG: Mary Thompson
Coastal Commission: Anne Nowell
Port of San Diego: Anne Nowell
San Diego Unifed School District: Beryl Flom

We're  looking for volunteers to be an observer, especially at San Diego City Council meetings, among others.  We will help guide new volunteers in how to watch meetings on line and how to have notes focused on core themes.

Observer Corps are a structured way for individuals to exercise their right to know.
