It’s time to implement the Voter’s Choice Act in San Diego

Testimony to the San Diego County Board of Supervisors:
The League of Women Voters of San Diego and North County San Diego support electoral systems that encourage participation and promote access to voting and the Voter’s Choice Act model fits the bill. With the adoption of any electoral system, the League believes that education of the voting public is important and funding for startup and voter education should be available.
We are concerned that developing the Election Administration Plan in a short time frame may not provide sufficient time and resources to ensure adequate education and engagement, particularly in communities comprised of already underrepresented voters. We encourage sufficient funding to support robust community outreach efforts and collaboration with community organizations to facilitate that outreach.
With those caveats, we support the proposed implementation of the vote center model beginning in June 2022.
