PaintCare Makes it East to Recycle Paint

PaintCare makes it easy to recycle paint.  Whether you want to get creative or just drop off open paint cans and make sure they get a new life, PaintCare is there for you. PaintCare,Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that represents paint manufacturers to plan and operate paint stewardship programs in the U.S.  PaintCare was established by the passage of the nation’s first paint stewardship law in 2009.  Since then, PaintCare has launched programs across the country, including one in San Diego
PaintCare provides help and support in every step of the painting process:
1.  Buy Right - when estimating how much paint you need to buy there are several variables to account for.  PaintCare recommends measuring the space and taking the measurements to the paint store to work with expert staff to determine how much to buy.
2.  Store Right - if you do buy too much, store the remainder properly to use for future projects.  PaintCare offers tips to keep your leftover paint in good condition for reuse or recycle.
3.  Use It Up - give your leftover paint a new life. See if there are other home items or creative
projects that you can use it on.
4.  Give It Away -“Paint Share”. If you can’t use leftover paint which has been stored properly give it to friends or community groups.  Reuse is the preferred methods of using up leftover paint because it helps to divert a valuable resource away from landfills and shares it with local communities
5.  Recycle The Rest - when you run out of ways to use up or share your leftover paint, recycle it with PaintCare.  PaintCare has set up convenient locations where you can take unwanted paint, stain, varnish and other products for reuse or recycle.
PaintCare believes that paint stewardship is for all ages.  PaintCare staff are available for classroom presentations, community events, and field trips.  They have developed a supplemental activity kit that is free for 3rd grade teachers.  “Julia’s Painting Adventure” is designed to educate students on paint stewardship and also strengthens math skills through real life problem solving.  They learn how to plan paint projects around the home and school and neighborhood and to purchase carefully to reduce waste.
