Criminal Justice IG report - January 2026
After our panel discussion on “What is Really Happening in our Jails” in October, we skipped having our interest group meetings for the months of November and December. However we did repeat the presentation in November to the Racial Justice Coalition and in December to San Diegans for Justice. We have another one scheduled for January 24th as well.
At our January interest group meeting, we will have Assistant Sheriff Dustin Lopez as our guest speaker. Dustin attended the October luncheon event and currently leads the Detention Services Bureau of the San Diego Sheriff's Office. We are preparing a list of questions to ask Dustin, which we will have given him at least one week prior to our meeting. Dustin was promoted to that position in 2024 and Kelly Martinez was elected sheriff in 2022. We want to help the Sheriff’s Office make the improvements that our report listed need to happen in order for our detention services to be fair, just and humane.
Please join us on January 14 at 12:30 pm on Zoom. You can access the meeting through the LWVSD calendar.
