Trash Hauling Fees are Going into Effect

For single family homes and very small apartment buildings in the city of San Diego, the waste hauling system is changing and homeowners will have a fee added to their property tax. All cans are going to be replaced by the city because they have a chip in the new ones. There are three sizes of bins, 95 gal., 65 gal., and 35 gal. and three types of cans (black which will be replaced by gray and blue which will be replaced by light blue). Homeowners will get a postcard soon telling them to go online starting July 15 to sign up for the size bins they want. If you don't sign up, you will get 95 gal. bins. The charge on your property tax bill is reduced for smaller black/gray bins. In 2025, everyone will be charged for the large bins and those who signed up for smaller black bins will get a refund next year. The fee will increase annually for four years. There is no opting out to change providers or for times when you do not put your bins on the street for collection. If you want extra bins, you will be charged for them as well.
