How is the Racial Justice Act being implemented in San Diego County?

The Criminal Justice Interest Group voted to spend this year (July 2024-June 2025) collecting evidence that will help us create a presentation that we will be able to share with other organizations. We hope to put more pressure on our new Sheriff to follow “Best Practices” and create a more healthy environment for those incarcerated in our county. In November we had Brett Kalina , the new Executive Officer of CLERB speak to us about the jails and CLERB’s ability to oversee and intervene when there are problems with the jails. On January 15 we have Sadaf Hane scheduled to speak about how San Diego County is implementing the Racial Justice Act. It should be an interesting conversation and we will be taping her presentation. Note that the usual date of the second Wednesday of the month has been changed to the third Wednesday to accommodate her schedule. We will be back to the second Wednesday in February.
